Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Many thanks for taking the time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
The product we're looking at today is a range of cockspur handles. They are from the manufacturer Sparta and it's called their Trojan range of cockspur handles. Here we have them here. They are beautiful in design because they actually have a lovely finish to these. They're in white, gold and a nice polished chrome finish as well. One of the unique things as well with the Sparta range is that they have a range, this is the cockspur version, but the style as you can see there is exactly the same as some of the other ranges of different types of window handles as well.
One of the unique advantages is that if you've got an espag type locking system, multi-point locking doors over there or you might have an aluminium window over there etc. then at least you'd be able to turn around and have the same design and style, even though your window is slightly different in its make and its manufacturer. So that's one of the distinct advantages of going with this particular range.
Now, let's tell you a little more about the features and what you need to know to be able to make the right decision as to which particular type of handle will suit your application. First of all, you need to be aware of its handing, whether or not your handles are left-handed or right-handed because we need to know which side the cockspur is sticking out of. It's quite easy to understand. If I were to get this nice chrome finished one here, if I'm looking at this handle from the side and the handle itself is on the left of the cockspur then this is a left-handed handle. If it was on the right like this one is here, then it's a right-handed cockspur handle. So that's first of all things you need to know.
Second thing you need to know also is what we call the stacking height. How far is this cockspur handle actually away from the face of the product that you're sitting it on? Because if you've got any sort of distances there, you need to be aware of those. The easiest way to measure them is to actually put your ruler down and where the actual part sits there, you measure the bottom of that there and whatever that measurement is, that is the stacking height. This particular range is available in 9mm. They're available in 15.5mm and 21mm. And that's the distance, the stacking height that they are away from the actual substrate that they are fitted to.
Now, one of the other distinct advantages of this particular type of range, and it's unique to Sparta, I haven't seen it on any other ranges so far, even though this is the locking version and the keys are universal throughout the whole range so they can be all on the same key, which means it's great and convenient. But, if you didn't want this to become a locking handle for whatever reason, whether you want it to be an escape handle or perhaps you just want to lock it or don't want people to fiddle with it, then they do come with these little caps here that you can actually put into the keyhole after you've done what you needed to do. It actually makes it then non-functional in regards to if you've kept it locked it will stay locked. If you want to keep it unlocked then it will constantly be unlocked and of course the key won't be able to get into it. So that's a unique feature should you need to have that.
What I'm going to do as well now is I'm going to get some measurements for you because of the footprint here we have some fixing measurements there. So let's get some centre measurements for you. The inside measurement is around about 31mm, give or take. And the outside ones there are, let me just try to get to the centre there, around about 50mm. Okay. So give or take a 1/2 mm on either side, but that's those fixings centres there so you can check to see whether or not your fixings centres are those or whether or not you can make fresh new holes or you can hang what's on it all together. The overall footprint of that bottom is over 70mm so that gives you quite a wide scope in respect to that. Depth also, that's quite an important one for you if you're interested, that's just 16 mm deep there.
Now, we also have a range of mounts. These are the actual keeps that would sit on the frame itself. They are available in either brown or white finish and they're also available in certain thicknesses. They start as thin as 3mm and they go up as far as 8mm. There's one in the centre there that's also 5mm. You'll see on the back of them there they've got these little nodules that stick out. You need to drill holes and these would actually sit down into the substrate and basically you can glue those into place there. Those would act then as the buffers there to actually lock your handle against as you can see there.
