Tubular latches may not look substantial, but in this case, UNION have really packed in quite a lot of punch for very little money on this one.
With a nylon latch you can be sure that operation will always be smooth, and having been factory-tested to over 1 million cycles, you can rest assured that these will stand the test of time under constant use. The 5 year guarantee should also go some way to proving its effectiveness!
The Premium tubular latch ironically comes as a substantially low premium! For such a small price you can't really beat the value for money!

Hi guys, my name's Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at this video. And it's about the Union 2648 Mortise Latch. It's designed to go into your own internal doors. Well it can be fit on any door really, but its construction and so forth really lends it to be on internal doors. Like your lounge door, your living room door, your bedroom doors. Where you just want to keep the door closed and you've got a set of door furniture as well to go with it. So here's the actual product here, you can see it's Union because its branded Union and so forth on the actual faceplate. I don't if you can zoom in a little bit closer. But you can also see while we're zoomed in there as well is that Union have decided to use nylon as part of the latch configuration these days. I don't know why. Nylon does have some slipping properties and therefore probably that's why Union have decided to use that.
Now this particular type of tubular mortise night latch, sorry, mortise latch, is available in four, sorry in three different sizes, I'm all over the place tonight. Three different sizes. It's either 64 millimetre case depth which is this one here. Its also available in a 80 millimetre and again in a 91 millimetre as well. So you can bring the handle quite far back. Now its recommended that you don't use unsprung furniture with this particular latch. Its not designed to use unsprung furniture so whatever handle that you decide to use with it, you need to make sure that there's springs inside the actual handles themselves.
It comes in two different finishes, either a nickel finish or a brass finish as you can see on this one, this one's brass. It also comes as well with a nice little keep here that you can sit in the striking plate that can sit on the frame of the door and, you know, it just works really well. There it is sitting inside nice and tidy as you can see.
The follower here, this what we call a follower. This is where the spindle will sit and that size there is 8 millimetres. That's the size of the spindle that goes into that particular hole. It also comes as well with a selection of fittings as well, to fit it into your door. So there you go guys, there's not really much that we can say about this. But at least with a video it gives you an opportunity to see the product that sometimes a picture can't really give and you can see whether or not it's actually suitable for your particularly type of application.
I'll give you a couple of the measurements as well, just to make sure, just in case you need it. If you're thinking of drilling a hole there, you want to be drilling at least a 22 millimetre hole into your door to accept that. The face measurements as well is 25 millimetres wide across there and the height is 60 millimetres. So the fore-end height is 60 millimetres and that there is 25 millimetres for your info.
So from me Darrel here at the LocksOnline tech team and all of us here at LocksOnline incidentally, many thanks for taking the time to pop in and have a look at this video. I hope its been able to give you a bit more informed decision as to whether or not this is the particular latch for you.
But if you need more advice or you're needing a bit of information, hey pick up the phone we'd love to hear from you. Live Chat on our website or pop an e-mail over.
