Hi guys. My name is Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline. Thanks for taking the time to tune in and have a quick look at one of our product review videos. Now I'm putting these short little videos together to be able to give you, our customers, the opportunity to see the products that we have to offer, and hopefully a little bit more detail or in the flesh, so to speak.

So today I want to show you a Union door closer. It's the Universal Door Closer. Now what it means by universal is that it can be fitted to the door in the three most common applications. Figure one, figure 66 and so forth and figure 61. I've got some drawings here that I'll pop up to the video camera now in a second just to give you an indication as to how they're actually fitted. But let's look at what's in the box first and then we'll talk you through all the individual products.

So what we have here is this is the actual closer itself. Now it has a strength of between three and four in regards to its gauging. That means in English, basically, is that it's going to be okay to be fitted on a standard half hour fire door and normally a strength three is what is required. So you do have the ability of getting yourself a little bit more strength by it being adjustable between strength three and four.

Now on the end here as well, you can also see that there's two little indicators here, two little screwdriver slots. Now what those allow you to do is it allows you to adjust the closing speed of the closer, and also the latching action. That's the last say, ten inches of door where you can speed that up so therefore then it latches and locks into position as to what you really want to do when you're looking to fit this on a fire door, you need it to be in a latched position, in a closed position. So that's the actual body of the actual closure itself. It comes, here, with its standard arm, which is totally adjustable here as well. And therefore once you've got yourself set up there you can tighten up that bolt there and that will hold that arm in the right place.

You get a lovely cover here which, again, is totally adjustable. You can take this out here and that would then pop on there that, or you could by all means have it round the other way there, like that and so forth. It has the ability to move it depending on which way you want to set that for. And it comes with its fixing screws there which is standard, and this is your application 66 fixing plate. And again, I'll explain how this one works in the images that I have here to my right.

Now one of the most important things with this particular type of closure is because it's universal, it may be that you're wanting to replace this with an existing closer, or you're thinking to yourself, is it the same footprint that we've already got there, if your closer's starting to fail and you want to replace it. So let's get the actual measurements of the actual footprint in regards this lot.

So the overall length of this closer here is about 200 and, I'm going to go for 200 and 17 millimetres. The actual width of the closer, as well, is around about 44 millimetres. Now these fixing centres here. If I was to get myself an idea of this centre fixing centres there, I'm looking there around about 203, 204 millimetres, and those particular centres there are around about, I may be far off, say 20 millimetres, maybe 19 millimetres there fixing centres.

What I'll also do as well is if you were you could zoom in here, you could see that all the stamping and all the coding, etc. and the CE approval and so forth is all on here should you want to try and cross reference that if you're thinking that you're wanting to replace one there. So, yeah, that's the actual information on the actual closer itself. By all means, pause the video if you want to be able to see that in a bit more detail.

Now when it comes to the actual fixing of this particular type of closer, there is two or three different options that I've mentioned before. So it has the templates here, and as you can see, it's got all the sizes there, but I'm not necessarily interested in showing you all of that because that just gives you an idea of how it's all situated. But more to do with this particular part down here, which is how it is actually fitted onto the actual door there. As you can see there that is using this particular bracket that would actually be screwed in on there and so forth and allows you then to show how the actual closer is fitted there. So that's just to give you an idea. By all means, pause if you need to take a bit of information in regards to how that actually is situated on there.

And then finally then what we'll do also is we'll have a look at these in here also. Now that, here, as well shows another two different types of fixings there, with the actual closers there as either on the frame or it's on the door there. So that gives you another indication as well, those two particular pictures there on how you can actually fit the closer.

And that's the reasons why it's called a universal door closer, because it has all of these different permutations. Of course all of these are the templates to allow you to be able to offer these up to the door. Basically cut them with the scissors there, stick them on the door, and it gives you all the templates as to where you need to be fixing. So that's a little bit of forethought there from Union, the manufacturers.

So there you go, guys. It's a universal door closer. It's quite a popular product purely and simply because it has all of that diversity of control in regards to door closers. Standard for fire doors, so you don't have any issues there. So it's an ideal closer that's competitively priced in the industry to allow you to be able to get the job done and get the door closed and into a locked position.

But if you need a bit more information, or if you want a bit more of advice on this or any of the products that we have, pop us over an email, use the live chat that we have, or simply do it the old fashioned way and pick up the phone and give us a call. Either way, we'd love to hear from you and more importantly, we'd love to see you as one of our customers.

So from me, Darrel, and all of us at the team, thanks for taking the time to tune in. I hope to catch up with you real soon. Take care, now. Bye, bye.
