Hi guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for taking some time to tune in to one of our product review videos. The product that we have here in front of us today is the Viro central shutter door lock. It's the 8231 model. Here's the bad boy here. Let's have a look at it in a bit more detail for you guys.
If you're thinking that this is the one that's on your roller shutter door and it's broken or you're thinking that it needs to be replace or you've lost the keys for it, then having this video will give you a better understanding and a little bit more information than a picture and a description can give. As you can see here now, this is the part that will be on the inside and what you will see on the outside is obviously this particular part here. It should have written on there is Viro. Viro is an Italian company and they're quite popular in the UK. That will be on the actual key there and on the keyway there.
It comes standard with two sets of keys and these particular types of keys can be used on both sides of the lock. There obviously and then you turn it. Then it throws these bars then out. It's these bars that connect to further bars and it's those bars then that would go into the frame. If you're on the inside if I bring that back, on the inside, here's the inside here and again, you can unlock it from the inside by operating the key on the inside as well. It's one of those keys that can work on both sides.
It comes with these little pins and these pins are here to act as guides to help you get the right position in regards to the fixings and so forth. You can either use the ones that are there or it comes with two guides to help you.
Without further ado, what we'll do is we'll get some measurements for you so then you can have a look at your lock or your hole. If there's no lock there, you would be able to work out roughly whether or not this is the lock for you and see if it will fit in your application. The case length overall is 155mm. The case height there is 55mm. The projection there in the unlock state is 45mm. If I was to lock that now, throw the bolt all the way over, take the keys back out and now our projection is just a smidgen under 70mm. That's round about a 25mm projection there from one end to the other.
The cylinder projects out as you can see there and I'll get that measurement for you as well because that's quite an important measurement. We're coming up 10mm there from the plate, so that's how far it sticks out. Your roller shutter door can't be any thicker than 10mil otherwise that's going to hit on the inside and you may not be able to get your key in. The backset measurement and it's quite a weird way to measure this, but I'm going to measure the centre of the cylinder there with the bottom of the actual lock because I think that's quite an important measurement because it all depends on where it sits to where this hole is to the fixings. I'm getting a measurement there that's a little bit slightly off but about 24mm. That's that measurement there.
I'll give you some final fixing measurements. The centres there is 37mm, 38mm probably and that fixing there is 137-138mm as well. There you go guys. That's the 8231 Viro central shutter door lock. It's available on the LocksOnline website of course.
