Hi guys, my name's Darrel, I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk.
And today we have in front of us, cause we're doing product reviews, is the Weiser Beverly Passage Knob Set.
Now you may be familiar with this particular style of handle, whereas you turn the handle and by turning the handle it draws a latch and allows you to open the door. They were more popular back in the '70s and early '80s and so forth, and they were used a lot in commercial buildings.
They were imported from America. Weiser is an American company.
This particular one here is for, like if you got your sitting room or your dining room, where you don't necessarily need to lock it, there's no need to lock it. But you what you want to do is just to be able to keep the door closed like an ordinary latch and you like this particular style of handle.
It comes as standard, there's the latch there. There is no dead-locking facility, it's not a security product. It's just basically to hold the door closed.
But one distinct advantage with these is that, if you think of fitting new or you're thinking of fitting retro, you have the ability to be able to adjust the backset and it's quite, it's quite simple in as much that if I drop that pin down and move it, I have now altered that backset there.
I'll try and do it without my fingers being in the way. I'll try and do it on this side, there you go, and I'll just, well I need to do it both sides. There you go and I've just dropped it back in.
Now the backset measurement is from the leading edge, in other words, the leading edge of the door to the centre as to where the handle is going to sit on the door. By altering this backset here, allows you have a backset of round about – well it's 60 or 70 millimetres, not round about, it is that.
So that's what a backset is, and fair dos to Weiser, having this adjustable backset, do have a lot of brownie points in regards to that.
Now if you're thinking of replacing, the chances are they've redesigned this latching mechanism since the old type that were around. So you, you would, if you thinking of just changing the knobs, you would need to change the latch as well. Just to let you be aware of that.
As standard it comes with a keep. This is obviously the brass version. They do a silver version as well, if you want to go silver. But this is the brass version, that's the keep that sits in the frame. Nothing fancy about that, that is what it is. And here's the actual set now. This, normally depending on the specification, you may have different features on these like a privacy set, which we have mentioned before.
They do an entrance knob set that uses a key. They do a storeroom knob set, etc. and they do dummy-knob sets and so forth. But this is just the standard knob set.
So without further ado, let's look at getting some measurements here. So, to give you guys some sort of idea as to how thick a door you can fit these on. We know from previous measurements, that you can get away with somewhere in the region of round about 53 millimetres diameter here.
And of course, the narrowest we can get away with, I'll just bang a quick measurement on there. You're talking a door of only 24 or 25 millimetres. So that would be quite a thin door.
The idea is, if I actually, if I actually pop this on here, you can actually see how it actually works. That would sit on there like that. That would sit on there like that, the other way. Set's . . . Hang on, get them in there, there you go, that's in there, and the idea is that that would be closed, and then, there I am, there I'm just operating the knobs there, like normal.
So that's the basic function of them. What I'll also do, is I'll get you a measurement of, if you're thinking, if you have a hole in your door and you want to try and cover it up. This measurement here is, we're talking there, 60, 66, 67 millimetres diameter there.
And the centres, the fixing centres, I'll get that for you now, guys, two secs. Yeah, I'm looking at round about 40 millimetres fixing centres there.
So there you go, that is the Beverly range of Weiser knob sets available on LocksOnline.co.uk's website.
