Hi, guys. My name is Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.

Today we're talking about rack bolts, secondary security types of bolts that you would fit on your final exit doors, or your back doors to your house to give your doors that little bit of extra security. These are manufactured by a company Jedo, and they're available on our website. The basic principle of these particular types of rack bolts, they're a form of what we call in the industry "passive security." In other words, what they're designed to do is to restrict the access. They're not high-security. They're not designed to be high security. What they're designed to do effectively is to put that extra bit of bolt between you and the outside world. The idea is say, for example, on your back door you may have a lock in the centre but you may want to put additional bolts on it.

Well, the beauty with this particular type of lock is that it can actually be morticed into the door and shoot the bolt into the frame, which makes it a lot more secure than having bolts that are physically screwed on, like a rim application bolt that is physically screwed on. In respect to that type of bolt, this is significantly more secure. That's not without a shadow of a doubt there.

It comes as standard with a keep, as you can see here. Okay. So this is what would actually be fitted on the frame and this is the actual bolt then that would sit into that then when you actually lock it together. It also comes in an escutcheon, as you can see here, and that would sit there then to cover up the hole once you've drilled the hole.

Now you don't drill the hole all the way through on these. You only drill the hole on the inside because this is the type of key that you would use. These don't necessarily come with keys; you need to order the keys separately with Jedo because it may be that you might have a dozen of these but you only may need two keys. So it's well worth of being aware of that. And the idea it's quite simple. You just pop that in like that and you rotate it and that allows you to throw the bolt in and out.

Now when you actually do the fitting of this, what you may see on the front, I don't know if you can zoom in there, but you see a little nipple there. And the idea of that nipple, believe it or not, is that when you actually fit this into the door you would use the key and force the bolt into the frame. That makes an impression then on the frame. That gives you a mark then to drill your hole into the frame.

So there you go, guys. They're also available in a brass finish should you need to do so. But while I'm here now, I'll get some quick measurements for you just to see whether or not this will actually fit in your particular application. The overall length of this particular rack bolt is 60mm there, as you can see. The backset, that is from the leading edge to the centre where you put the keyhole in, is 30mm, so it's half. The faceplate width is 20mm, and the faceplate length there is 42mm. The actual size of the tube, I'll just use a vernier on that to give you a little bit more indication, that's 16mm there. The actual thickness of that is 16, just slightly under, because I know flat bit that you can get for 16mm and that would go in nice and smooth there.

So there you go. Of course, fixing screws as well. So there you go. If you need a bit more information or you're not 100% sure, you think to yourself, "I could do with a bit more advice" by all means pick up the phone and give us a call. Use our live chat on our website. We'd love to hear from you and, more important, we'd love to see you as a customer. So from me, Darrell, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, take care. We'll catch up with you real soon. Bye-bye.
