Hi, guys. My name is Darrell and I'm the head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. Today we're talking handles. Today we're talking about UPVC handles and the manufacturer Sparta. They do a complete range of handles but the ones that we have here in front of us today is the ones that we call in the trade 92 millimetre centres. Now, what that means is that the distance between the spindle and the actual keyhole is 92 millimetres.
So if I were to get one of these out, the actual distance between there, the centre of the actual handle and the centre there of the keyhole is 92 millimetres. Now that's pretty industry standard for the majority of UPVC locks. There always are exceptions to the rule, but this particular one here is the 92. Now they come in both a short -sized handle, as you can see there, and they also come in a longer version as well, as you can see there. The fixing centres on the shorter version, from there to there, is 122 millimetres. The fixing centres on this particular one here, from there to there, is 211 millimetres.
Now another distinct advantage with this particular range of Sparta handles, that they've got the short handle and they've also got the longer handle, but they've also got sprung cassettes here, as you can see. And the idea of these sprung cassettes is it stops the old dreaded handle droop that you might be familiar with certain types of handles.
Some handles don't come with sprung cassettes and what happens is that they're relying on the actual springs within the lock to actually keep the handle in the upright position. Consequently, in doing so, eventually things wear out, it's not really designed for that so to say, and then the handle starts drooping down and the mechanism gets worn out. So you've got to be conscious of that. Also, the styling here. You might quite like the styling and of course there's a range of handles here that are also available in black which is quite unique as well.
So what I'm going to do is get some more measurements for you. This is the long plate version as we've mentioned to you before. We've talked about the centres being 92, we've talked about the overall fixing centres there at 211, so let's get the actual overall size of the handle there. And we're talking there 245 millimetres. Also, the actual width there is 35 millimetres as well.
Now of course this range of handles. Well, I'll get on to this one as well just quickly before we go any further. Yes, that's the same there at 35 mm and the overall length on this particular handle also is 210 mm overall. Now, one of the other distinct advantages, they come in a complete range. They come in a satin silver finish which you see here. Great, brilliant. They come in the black finish as I've shown. They come in a lovely polished brass finish as well, which I'm going to get fingerprints all over. They come in the standard white finish which I've got here. And of course they come in this polished chrome finish as well, again I'm going to get fingerprints working with this.
Available on our website, like we said 92mm centres. There is a whole choice there available for you. Sparta is the manufacturer and we're LocksOnline. But listen, if there's a bit more information that you need to know or you need to get a bit more advice etc., by all means, pop us over an email.
A couple of little top tips as well when you're actually fitting new handles, put a bit of Vaseline on the ends of the threads as well when you screw them in. Should you ever need to change them at a later date then they're going to be a little bit easier to get them out. Just kind of guess, if your handle's been on that long then those screws can get a little bit seized over a period of time. So save yourself the job in another 10 or 15 years or whenever you decide you want to change your handles again by putting a little bit of Vaseline on them.
So from me, Darrell, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, listen, if you need a bit more information, pop us over an email, use the live chat on our website, it's totally free, pick up the phone and give us a call.
