Hi guys, my name is Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking sometime to tune in and have a look at one of our products review videos.
What we are doing today is we are having a look at a bathroom lock. It's designed by the manufacturers, Union, so we are already knowing that it's going to be of good quality. It's the silver series. It's the 2226 bathroom lock.
Now what makes this slightly different to most types of locks in general is that you don't need a key in which to actually throw the bolt over. What you normally have is a little turn snip etc. that sits at the bottom. And this is the actual lock itself.
So what union have done is they have taken the traditional silver series lock case–this is what they call a silver series–which is available in a three lever lock as well. And they've actually implanted in there is a little 4-millimetre follower–that's what we call a follower–and that's a 4-millimetre follower and you would put a bar in there and turn that bend to throw the bolt out.
So if you're looking on putting this on your bathroom, what you would normally have on the inside is a bit of a turn to allow you to lock the door. Whilst on the outside then you might have those little indicators that has a little gap in them so forth to allow you to throw the bolt back in the event of an emergency.
Now this particular lock is available is three different sizes, it's available in 2.5 inch, which is the size I have here now. It's available in a 3 inch and it's also available in a 4 inch, which is quite unique because Union are probably one of the only now–while I can think if another one company–that's doing lock cases that are four inches in depth.
Now the follower on the top here is a standard 8 millimetre follower so it will accept traditional type cylinders sorry spin doors and traditional type handles as well. It comes in two different finishes. This is the satin chrome finish. Of course it's got a cover on it so it looks a little bit opaque, but it would be quite shiny once you take the cover off. And it's also available in a brass finish as standard.
It comes with its fixing screws – and here is a pack of fixing screws – and of course it comes with its fixing plate as you can see there. That again, it's got a protective covering over it, so when you actually fit it, it will look brand new and it will look quite shiny.
Now if you want to change the handing on this particular type of lock, it's quite simple. You don't need to take the actual case off. Simply undo that screw there take the actual latch out, turn it around, screw it back into location, and that is it. That is all you need to do in which to change the handing depending on which way the door opens and closes.
So to get a little bit more information on this particular lock, I've got to let you know as well it can accept bolt-through furniture – that's the reason why you've got these two slots on either side of the follower there – and that's still how to design it if you are going to put furniture that is actually bolt through, then you can actually use those two slots. I'll get you measurements about it later on.
So once we talk about measurements let's actually get the ruler out and let's get some measurements off this, the 2.5 inch lock and of course everything then will be proportionate depending on the size that your particularly looking for.
So the locking face plate forend length is 152 millimetres the forend width is 25 millimetres. The case depth of this one here as we've mentioned before is 64, 65 millimetres okay. The PZ end measurement–that's the centre of that spindle to the centre of that spindle–which is quite an important measurement. I'm trying to get as accurate as I possibly can, I'm saying that there is a 58 millimetres.
The centres for these bolt-through furniture here for your information, I'm going to be looking back I've run about 32, 33 millimetres from the centre of there to roughly about the centre of that one. So as you can see there, it's a little bit extremes on either sides to go for there. On the actual case thickness as well is 14, 15 millimetres okay.
So the back set on this particular one – and that's from the leading edge to the centre of either of this follower or this follower here – and that there is 44 millimetres. Okay, that's give or take a millimetre or two, but that's the back set there.
So there you go guys. That's the Union 2226. It's available on our website LocksOnline.co.uk. But listen if you need a bit more information or you want a little bit more of advice you can always pop on line use our live chat on our website we'd love to hear from you, and more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer.
So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, hope this video is giving you a little bit more input, and catch up with you real soon. Take care now, bye-bye.
