Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we're talking about the Union's 9094 rebate kit. Now this is quite a universal rebate kit, but I know one of the things that we do get asked about a lot online and so forth is how do you measure a rebate? And I've actually done a YouTube video with a whiteboard showing people how to measure a rebate. But whilst I'm here talking about this particular universal rebate that's available from the manufacturer Union, I'll go through a little bit quickly on how to actually measure a rebate.
Now, a set of French doors typically that you'll see on a house these days that would open out onto a patio or the back of the house, etc., the chances are that they've got a bit of a dog leg that sits in between the one leaf, which we call the secondary or the slave leaf, and the primary leaf, or the locking leaf between the two. And there's a little bit of dog leg in them, therefore to try and fit a lock in there, it kind of doesn't fit really right. And you think to yourself, "Well, how actually do you get around that," and you use your rebate kit.
Now the depth, if you were to take the door, I don't have a whiteboard here so I'm not going to go into detail, but I mean if you do look at your door and you actually measure the depth of the rebate, in other words how deep does that cut go into the door, that is how you measure it. Typically, industry standard is these days, if you've got a 44mm thick door, then chances are you've got a 13mm rebate. But we can get bigger rebates, up to 3/4 of an inch, and also an inch rebate as well. Now one of the benefits of this particular type of one that we have here is quite universal and will work with a range of different types of latches, as well as Union. But it will also work as well with a range of Weiser knob sets that we have listed on our site as well.
Now it comes in three basic parts. You've got the actual keep here, which you can see there. You've got the part here that works with the projection as well. That's actually the part that sits on the latch, and it comes with some fixing screws as well, and obviously the fixing screws for the keep as well. Now one of the distinct modifications that you need to be aware of in this is the depth here. And that's the actual width of the actual tubular latch that will sit in here. And if I get you a measurement on that, that there is 56, just short of 57mm. I'm going to say 56mm.
So I've actually got a Weiser tubular latch here to give you guys some sort of idea to see how it will actually sit, and this is the actual latch here, as you can see. So if I was to put that into there like that, you will then see that that will actually sit in there just right. Just so. It just gets pushed into there like that, and of course it then holds . . . when you're cutting into the door, you'll see that this particular part here will actually be hidden then, by the actual rebate. Okay. So that's well worth you knowing.
On the Weiser, as you can see, they've got this little bit of a projection here that sits behind. There's nothing much you can do about that. But on other makes, you may find that will sit flush there, no problem at all. And of course the idea then, is this particular part will sit on the secondary leaf, and this little shape that you see here actually tidies up the wood that you're going to have to cut away. So when one sits into the other, it sits in there like that. I've probably got this round the wrong way. Let me flip this on the right way so give you a little bit better indication as to how it would work. So there you go. So that's now sitting on there like that.
So you can imagine now, for want of a better word, if this door was outward opening like that, all right, this then would be on the secondary leaf like that and the idea is that as the door closes, that would actually sit down in there, and then of course this then sits nice and tidy in there as you can see. So that's basically how they work. And if it's this depth from the face here to the end here, is what you would measure as the depth, as the rebate is the depth and that'll tell you what size rebate kit that you need.
It's easier if you go and see the video that I did with the whiteboard, and I've got some sort of pictograms and diagrams to show exactly how it is done. Of course we're talking more about the actual rebate kit that is available. They come in two different sizes. They come in 13mm and 25mm depths. Now we know a bit more about how to measure depth, and also in brass and also in a chrome finish as well.
But if you need a bit more information on this particular product or any product that we have on our website, by all means give us a call. Use the live chat on our website. That's totally free. You can speak to me or any of the guys. We're all pretty knowledgeable about all the products that we sell online. We'd love to hear from you and honestly, more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer. That would be really good for us. So from me Darrel, and all of us here at the Locks Online team, I hope I've been able to give you a bit more information and to try and dispose of those myths in regards to how rebates work. In the meantime, take care and we'll catch up with you real soon. Bye-bye now.
