Hi guys. Thanks for tuning in. My name is Darrel, I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and today we're looking at the Bramah Sash Window Locks. If you live around the London area you'll probably be familiar with Bramah because Bramah is a very well-known name in regards to security products, and have been securing at our country and the locks on all our doors and our windows etc. for a good few hundred years now. But this is their window lock that's designed for sash windows.

If you've got sash windows, you'll know a sash window by you have a window that can slide up and down in a sash and you normally have one window at the top and one window at the bottom and you can slide them like that.

Now, what this particular device does, I don't know if I can just show it to you there, what this particular device does is stop one window crossing the path of another window. And the idea is, is that you would fit these on the outer sash to stop the inner sash from being able to be lifted up. So if you're looking at your sash window, the top window, you'll have a frame around it and the idea is these would actually sit on that frame.

Now, how high up on that frame that you decide to fit those, is entirely up to you. If you fit them really tight to the bottom sash, then the bottom sash isn't going to move much. But if you were to put the position, say, a couple of inches up then that would allow you to lift the sash up a couple of inches for ventilation and still have a degree of security, because obviously nobody is going to climb through a hole of a couple of inches.

So let's have a look to see how they actually work and how you would actually go about fitting them. Now they come in two different units. You've got the plug here. If I can just unscrew that a second and put this down here. I don't know if you can zoom in on that for us now, Lee. This is the part that you can actually fit into the sash window.

Now that thread there is quite a very coarse thread, and the idea is is that you would use a 6 millimetre Allen key there to allow you to drill a – well, you'd drill a 10 millimetre hole into the sash window and then you would put a hex Allen key in there and you wind that then, into your sash, into the top sash, until it's flush, and that then becomes the bed or the seat in for the actual lock itself, and this is the actual lock here.

Now, as you can see, if I put that down a second, this part then gets threaded in there. But to stop anybody from being able to just unscrew it, this rotates. The outer side rotates. And that basically stops anybody from just undoing it so you need to have a key.

Now, for whatever reason, Bramah don't sell these particular locks with key you need to buy keys as extra. So that's very important for you to be aware of that. And the key which sits inside there and I have one here and the key would actually sit inside there and allow you then to screw this into its keep. Into here like so, to lock your window, to stop it from being lifted.

Now they come in different sizes and they come in different finishes this is the brass version, they do a silver version as well, and they also come in different pack options. Now this is the 19 millimetre version of the lock, and the measurement that we're referring to there is this width here, is the distance from there to there. That's the 19 millimetre and they do do one that's 31 millimetres. Quite a tall one. That's in case you've got sash windows where there's a significant gap or that this slants or whatever, that makes it that you need to have that little bit extra length so at least you've got that choice there.

My personal opinion on this particular type of window lock, as far as I'm concerned, is a good window lock. It's very well engineered. I can't vouch for it enough. You can tell, I mean it's hard for me to explain, but there's a bit of weight to this here, guys. It's a good quality lock. And if you're thinking of investing in good quality then you aren't going to get far from this to protect your sash windows.

So yeah, I mean, I can't see any other thing that I can think here would be a positive. But, you know, if you need any more information, or you want a bit more advice, pop us over an e-mail, give us a call, or we've got Live Chat now on our site. You can Live Chat with us or chat with me anytime you want and I'd be more than willing to give you a little bit more information.

So from me, Darrell, many thanks for taking the time to watch this video and I hope it's been informative. I hope it helps you make an informed decision to whether or not this particular product is the ideal choice for you.

But in the meantime, from me, thanks a lot guys, take care and come back and chat with us real, soon. Bye-bye now. Bye-bye.
