This is a replacement UPVC Window Lock Gearbox by Vita (also known as Vitawin). They offer a wide range of locking solutions and specialize in UPVC products.
Although these are designed for UPVC, some modernised timber frames use the same locking mechanisms, so this (and all other upvc gearboxes in this section) can be used for these if they measure up!
You can find the backset on your gearbox by checking the side of the lock itself, it should read either 22 or 20, which refers to the backset size. They also have LH and RH stamped onto the side which can further the chance that the model you are looking to replace is a Vita or Vitawin.
Hi guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
We're talking about gear boxes today guys, we're talking about window gear boxes and the gear box that we have here in front of us today is a manufacture called Vita, or Vita Van. You can tell its name, because if you actually get your window open and you have a look, this is the actual style of the centre gear box.
What you will have here in the front of you, in the front etc., is the name there. That says Vitawin. I think I got the pronunciation right on that one, but they've also got Vita. It's exactly the same gear box, I guess they've gone through a name change, but the gear box is exactly the same. So either Vitawin or Vita, and that gets you tracking down to the right gear box that you may have on your particular window.
There's other marker as well. They come in two different size back sets. They come in either 22 millimetre back sets, or they come in 20-millimetre back sets. Another key identifier is as well on that, is that you've actually got stamped on there. You got 20 millimetre stamped. I don't know if you can zoom in close enough to see that. But you have 20 millimetre stamped on there, and on this one here you've got the 22 millimetre stamped on there as well.
All right, so that's another thing. You'll also see as well on both of them you've got LH written on there. You also got RH that's written on there as well. All right. They're key identifiers that to see whether or not this is the particular type of gear box that you may have on your window.
Some of the other standard measurements on these, is they got 42 millimetre centres here to here for a typical window handle. Therefore, those centres there are pretty standard. It comes with a 7-millimetre follower as standard as well.
Of course, these would have these rods that would spike out from either end, and they're available on special order from us if you want to actually have rods, but 90% of the time it's the actual gear boxes that's doing all the work. They're the part that normally fails. That's another key thing that you need to be aware of.
There are other markers inside as well. There's actually writing in here and there's also writing in there. The main key criteria is look for these little identifiers like 22 or 20 RH, LH and of course Vita and Vitawin on the actual cases as well.
