This range of universal top hung UPVC window friction stays are able to be installed in a wide range of casement windows. This is the top hung version of a friction stay that aids the holding angle of the window. This model comes in 8inch, 10inch, 12inch, 16inch, 20inch and 24inch overall lengths. These models can be indentified on the side via a stamp. The stack heights on these models are 17mm
Handing: The stays you are replacing should have an L or an R printed on them, dictating which handing should be selected. If you wish to purchase both, select 'Left' and add to your cart, then select 'Right' and add to your cart.
These can be matched / imitated by using the 13mm stack version combined with a set of separately purchased packers to increase the height to 17mm.
Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time and tuning in to have a look at one of our product review videos.
The product that we have here in today is a range of friction stays. They're for UPVC windows. These are what we call in the trade top-hung friction stay. In other words, if your UPVC window hinges where you've got the handle at the bottom and it opens like that as opposed to like that, then the type of fixings that you have at the top that holds the window into place is what would call in the trade a top-hung friction stay. And this is what they look like in effect. It's quite stiff because it's quite new, but if the window were situated on there, then this would then operate like that, and allow you to open the window like that.
Now, these are a universal fitting, they fit 90% of the type of windows that are out there, so you can be rest assured that if this is what you're looking for, then the chances are that this will fit. But be mindful, there are ranges out there that have special functions like you can only open them so far, etc. This is just your basic, your standard type of friction stay. So it's a top-hung version. Now they come in loads of different lengths. They start at 8-inch, then they go to 10-inch, then they go to 12, 16, 20 and a massive 24, two foot long, for some really, really, really big windows. So it might be well worth you measuring which ones that you have.
Now these are handed, and on here you will see, I don't know if you can, if you can see it on this one here. Probably not so well. There are some, if I get this one out for you, you can see there, that they've got a little R with an arrow that's stamped on them there. Okay. And of course if that's the right-hand version, and of course then you have L then as well. But they're sold in pairs so you'd have one for one side and one the other side so no problem there at all.
Now another thing that you need to be aware of is the stack height, what we call in the industry. And that's how deep by the time you've popped this all on, is how deep this is actually, or how thick this is going to be. There are two different distinct sizes, there's 30mm, and there's also 70mm, and you can get them in 30 or 70mm. That's quite an industry standard in the UK at least.
But what we've done is we've gone a little bit of a stage further then, if you were to buy the 30mm version, which this is here, we can also provide you with some packers that you're a maintenance company or something like that and you don't know what you're going to come to until you get there, then if you stock the 30mm then you're going to have these little spacers. And these spacers will allow you then, you can slide these over, clip them into position, and they will allow you then to pack this particular 30mm one up to a 70mm. And you pop one over here as well so you splay them out like that. So that's a little bit of a distinct advantage with this particular range of friction stay hinges.
So there you go, guys. There's not really much more that I can say about these, available on our website, and that's the particular range that we have.
