Access Control - UPVC Doors - it is so Easy !
For years and years the options for fitting access control on UPVC plastic doors has been somewhat limited.
On certain occasions you could fit a strike release on the centre door latch, change the handles and you have a half cobbled idea for installing access on a UPVC door. The down side with the above application assuming that you have a wind up lock already fitted the security of the lock is just on the centre latch, as soon as your lock the door correctly your access control no longer works, perhaps if you don’t use the lock correctly your insurance company may have something to say about that as well.
There is however, an option and it is very easy, OK, it means you need to change the lock, handles and keeps, but to be honest this is not that difficult.
You need to be changing the above on your door for the Ferco A Opener.
This is an electric lock specially made for uPVC plastic doors but can be fitted on composite and wooden doors. But in general used on uPVC Plastic doors,
The lock has attached an electric gear box that mimics the handle and key operation. When the lock receives a trigger voltage the gear box engages and withdraws back the multipoint locks top middle and bottom. The main advantage is the lock helps to comply with your insurance companies requests, simply because it is still multipoint locking and it still shoots dead bolts into the frame.
Wiring is easy, you need a door loop to get power to the door and the lock requires 12 volts DC and a trigger feed. The gear box does take quite a bit of current and we recommend that you always consider at least a two amp power supply to feed power to the lock.
Ferco has been quite clever in the way that the lock works, it uses power to draw the bolts back and the latch. But, when the door closes, special catches on the bolts trigger and the bolts shoot back into the frame mechanically, ready for the next activation from the the electric gear box.
The lock can also be mechanically overridden by using the key from the outside and on the escape standard lock, pressing the handle down on the inside allows you to exit quickly and efficiently.
If you need to lock a uPVC door and you want to put an electronic keypad, or a proximity access control system, at last there is a lock that does not cost the earth and will work every time.
