Crime Wednesday Crime Review -- Betws Y Coed - North Wales
Hi all, and welcome to another edition of Crime Wednesday, here we drive down into the facts of crime in your town. Every Wednesday we take a town, by either pinning the tail on the donkey approach or from a request from one of our customers.
Today we are going to have a look at the small town of Betws Y Coed, based in North Wales and the main hub for anyone wanting to Holiday in the Snowdonia Mountain Range.
We were fortunate to have stayed in this town for a break for a couple of days back in the summer. And once you hang around the shops by the train station you can immediately see its charm. The area around the stain station has a little cosmopolitan life style, with cafes and trinket shops selling the Welsh way of life. You will notice, also, that the town has a major tourism industry, If you want to go walking in the Welsh Mountains this is the place to stay. There is a huge ‘Cotswold’ mountain shop in the centre of Betws Y Coed, with every camping piece of kit you would ever need.
The town has a lovely river running through it and in between the rain when the sun came out the river looked picture postcard perfect. In fact the picture of the river is in the main picture that was taken at the time of our visit.
So without further ado lets look at the crime figures.
Burglary, does not really exist in Betws this year alone up as far as July has shown only two reported incidents and the two of these were in February. One was of Station Road and the other was in the local Angling Club and that is it. so if you fancy a place to stay or live, this is a place you may consider. that is unless they are so security conscience that every door, window is permanently secured, and that thief’s where waiting for the sublime opportunity that a member of the Angling Club left a door or window open, some how, I don’t think so :-)
February also saw a staggering two shoplifting incidents and that has been it for the year so far. This is brilliant to allow me to see statistics like this, so far doing Crime Wednesday’s I have been reporting on 10’s and 20’s recorded burglaries a month, having a town that don’t see any is great news.
Betws has incidents of anti social behaviour but only a couple of incidents a month in fact in May there was 8 reported incidents for the whole month. 3 Anti Social Behaviour, 2 for vehicle Crime, 1 criminal damage and the other incidents are registered under ‘Other’.
June’s Crime Incidents amounted to only 2 for the whole month, just great statistics.
The guys at the local police station Michelle, Philip, Mark and Gary probably could not ask for a nicer place to live and with crime as low as what is reported may suggest that they are putting their feet up most of the day, or that they are so busy patrolling and keeping crime at bay that there is none. Obviously this is just my sense of humour :-)
I really liked the town when I stayed, charming character and very low crime rates. Something tells me we are not going to sell many locks in Betws Y Coed … !!
