Crime Wednesday - Town Focus ‘Milford Haven’
Hi Guys, and welcome to another instalment of Crime Wednesday and the town in focus is my town ‘Milford Haven’.
Sitting here scratching my head wondering what town should I research into all the stats for, I thought to myself ‘why not have a look at my town Milford Haven’.
Perhaps a little biased as I have lived here all my life, but Milford is a Fab town to live in. It has had its ups and downs like most towns but if you ever think of boom and bust literally , then perhaps Milford is a classic example of this concept. If I go back within the last 100 years or so Milford was one of the major fishing ports on the West coast of the UK. At one point it was probably bigger than any other fishing town in the UK and I recall seeing posters promoting this in one way or another. In the time of the war, Milford hosted some American solders and they built a special wharf to cater for the American Ships. We also stored a shed load of fuel here at Milford Haven for the spitfires and other aeroplanes that fought in the battle of Britain.
In the late 50’s we saw the advent of Oil Refineries setting up in the river of Milford and we still have two working refineries from the original 4 in and around Milford Haven. Of late, we have seen an increase of gas storage terminals and the future probably will be tidal arrays that are set to be installed in the Bristol Channel.
As you may guess I could write and write about the ups and downs of the town, the pros and cons. but lets not digress to much and lets have a look at the crime figures for ‘Milford Haven’
In the last year the town has seen less burglaries per month than you can count on your own hand the busiest so far was February earlier this year where we had 4 recorded burglaries.
In fact we have had more arrests for drug related crime in the town than break ins. But even then this is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, and again we are talking single figures.
Amazing to see that there was a Robbery in the town in October the first one recorded for over the last six months, so far this year we have had two robberies recorded.
October saw three shoplifting incidents and according to the maps it look as to be the Spar shop up in the centre of town as to where the incidents took place.
Violent crime recorded in October gave us a total of 15 incidents in the town, one of these happened to be in the police station. They seem to be dotted all over the town and there is no way of saying if one area is worse than any other by just looking at one months figures.
What seems quite startling is that in Church Street, Hakin where there is a youth club and every month there are reported incidents at this Youth Club according to the figures.
Off course being in the security industry I know most of the police up at the station, (for the right reasons I hope :-) ) But if you need to get in touch give Inspector Jackie Blackmore a call, or you will probably see Paul Mayhew who is a PCSO walking the streets, stop him and have a chat he is a very approachable sort of chap.
Many thanks for taking to time to have a read of this weeks ‘Crime Wednesday’ even if it is my town, but as mentioned before pop a message over and we would be more than willing to dig into the stats for your town.
