Crime Wednesday Stourbridge
Hi and welcome to another edition of Crime wednesday, Today we are going to have a quick nosey at Stourbridge, situated to the SouthWest off Birmingham, Stourbridge is famous for making glass, and Stourbridge Glass is famous world over.
With a population of around 60’000 this is ideal commuter territory to the heart of Birmingham and Kidderminster.
Average house prices in Stourbridge range around the £180K but it seems that there is recent growth (2012) in the re-sell value of Terrace Houses, gaining at least 4% increase in price in the last 12 months.
On my research into Stourbridge I was quite surprised to learn that Stourbridge was the centre to one of the first Steam Locomotives that was shipped over to the USA back in the late 1820’s and was the first Steam Train to be used for commercial gain in America, apparently this steam train can still be seen in the Smithsonian USA.
Stourbridge, every 2 years hosts the UK Glass Festival and takes a lot of pride in this event, the idea is also, at the same time to catalogue trends in glass making. of course to win at glass making as well as the art of design.
Crime in Stourbridge has been on the decline over the last 3 years which is great news. Burglary figures show that on average there is around 15 reported incidents per month, however in recent months there has been an increase in reported burglaries
Serious crime like GBH and Assaults etc has steadily been increasing over the last few months the reports are showing for August alone there was 32 reported incidents.
Most of this violent crime seams to be happening in High Street around the town centre and Pizza Express.
Sadly the town has its own fair share of Robbery as well, it is not often that a month goes by without a few reported incidents. In June this year one of these robberies was in Park Road in the hamlet of Wollaston SW of the town centre.
Antisocial behaviour hits the high 50’s of incidents a month and again most of these are to found around the town centre. A good 1/2 dozen reports a month goes on Public disorder and the use of weapons etc.
In June this year (2012) there was 187 reported incidents of all crime in the town of which 159 of these are either under investigation or no further action has been taken, the local police has managed to charge 17 suspects for the reported crimes in the town for that month.
The local police are incredibly active in the area for Neighbourhood watch schemes, if your reading this in the next couple of days there is an event for personal safety and crime prevention at Stourbridge college at 11:00 AM on the 5th November.
If you need any more information on getting involved in Neighbourhood watch schemes, check it out by dialling 101 and tapping in extension 79096732.
We very much hope that you have found the above helpful and don’t forget, if you want us to review your town simply email me on email@example.com
