Crime Wednesday - Tiverton in Devon
Hi all and welcome to another edition of Crime Wednesday. If your reading this for the first time and you want to know more about Crime Wednesday, or perhaps suggest your town for review, what we do here at LocksOnline, is take a town anywhere in the UK and delve into the crime in the area. This gives the residents an insight into what is happening around them.
So without further ado, lets look at Tiverton.
I like the name Tiverton, it seems to roll of the tongue quite well, if you know what I mean, I have done some research into Tiverton looking back at its history. I see that it was big in the woollen industry back a few centuries ago and was also a place that Oliver Cromwell hung out until he went on the rampage down to give Plymouth a slap, so to speak. I have actually been to Tiverton many many years back as a company well known in our industry has its headquarters there ‘Kaba Locks’.
With a population of around 25’000 Tiverton is a modest size town and it seems to be popular with the commuter fraternity into the major towns in the area. So one would suspect there are large built up areas of housing stock to be had around Tiverton.
So, lets have a look at the stats for the town.
Over the last few months burglary has been down in the town quite a bit actually, records show Feb, March, April, May etc having on average 15 or so burglaries a month but of late this has gone down to only 3 or 4 a month. Suspect perhaps, the police have managed to secure a gang who was active in the area.
The serious crime off Robbery is a little active with showing 3 reported incidents in the year so far. Would rather not see any as this involves attacks on people, not good.
Over the last four months or so, Anti Social Behaviour seems to be average for this size of town based on our previous research into other towns, and even then in my view is quite low of only 50 or so incidents a month.
A handful of shoplifting incidents are reported each month again nothing really new here for the size of the town.
Assaults, GBH and Sexual Crime is steady in the town along with public disorder and the use of firearms and other weapons. On average the town sees around 30 to 40 incidents a month. In July this year there was five reported incidents alone in ‘John Greenway Close’ and two reports in Gold Street.
The town has its fair share of drug problems as well, with July 2012 seeing 10 reported incidents, a few of these also seem to be around the Tivoli Cinema area.
All in all, and off course I am no expert in these matters, but the town by looking at the figures seems to show it is like any other town really, nothing great to report, but stay vigilant as always.
