Crime Wednesdays - Town - Cambridge - August 2012 from LocksOnline
Crime Wednesdays, this is when LocksOnline’s Community takes a town in the UK and drives down into the stats over the last six months or so to see how crime is affecting the town this week it is Cambridge.
With students getting their A level and GCSE Results over the last week or so, lets look at Cambridge this week.
We all know Cambridge as being one the major places for learning in this country. The average population of Cambridge is around 125’000 people and when the colleges open for business the population increases by another 30’000 or so.
Historically the site has had a settlement there from around the roman times and there is evidence that going back 3500 years of human habitat.
Cambridge being only 50 miles or so from London is in the commuting belt of London. So the main roads in and out of the city can be quite hectic in the rush hours.
Off course Cambridge is one of the learning capitals of the UK and records show that learning has been going on there since the early 13th century.
So without further ado, let’s learn a bit about the crime figures.
Seems to be a bit up and down over the last 6 months June and March showing over 30 reported incidents, when other months the figures are down 1/3 or even half. The crime seems to be sporadic all over the city, yet pockets of crime seems to be springing up again and again in the eastern quarter of the city. Basic security is recommended no matter where you live especially when your a new student to the area.
Any city or town that has a load of young adults going out at weekends are going to get a fair share of anti social behaviour, it goes with the territory, Cambridge sees on average about 200 reported incidents a month. Main areas to be guessed is the University area of the city and around Huges Hall area. Live it large by all means, but know your levels and stop drinking before you fall over. (Like mother now !! LOL)
Yeah there is a bit of car crime for a city this size with a lot of new faces every year we are guessing the average of around 20 reported incidents a month to be not bad, I guess the Police would like to stamp this all out though.
Violent Crime and Public Disorder
Between the two types of crime, Cambridge sees between 75 and 100 reported incidents a month based from last years figures this seems to be the average. Obviously to our readers, statically you don't want to be one of these stats, so be alert and keep on your guard, perhaps invest in a PA alarm on your mobile phone, or one of the electric ones that are available. Again the highest reported incidents are around the Gonville College areas.
If your a student and you are on your first big adventure away from home, best of luck and keep your guard up, be vigilant around your surroundings, basic stuff really but at the same time enjoy learning, better yourself, and have fun.
