Once a year the fleets of all the yacht clubs get together in Pembrokeshire SW Wales to slug it out for the highlight of the sailing calendar for this far corner of Wales.
Teams from Swansea and as far away as Ireland sail the rough Irish Sea to battle it out around the Islands of the coast. Skomer, Skokholm, are some of the islands that are famous for their bird life. Some tricky sailing can be done here at the heads/entrance to the 22 miles of navigable River Cleddau. seas rolling in from atlantic build up and can hit our shores with amazing ferocity, swells so high that in the troughs you would be lucky to see a mast from a yacht that may be only two hundred yards away.
The Walters Group / LocksOnline were proud to sponsor the event last year and again this year.
The event is hosted in a small village called Dale, right on the peninsular of the St Annes headland, hundred if not thousand of people pour into this village with one pub and one cafe. Hundreds of yachts anchor in the Bay ready for the three day event over the August bank holiday weekend.
The event is supported by all the Yacht Clubs on the river at Milford Haven, and organised by PCRC Pembrokeshire Cruising and Racing Club, Medals and trophy’s are giving out after the days racing in the Dale Yacht Club, where evenings meals are available for all, as well as the local pub offering grub for crews and guests.
If you're looking for something to do this August bank holiday, contact PCRC on https://www.pcrc.info and put your name forward as wanting to crew on a racing yacht, perhaps you can help in some other way as well. But what ever, this August bank holiday is going to be another spectacular weekend with highs and lows for all who will be entering.
