Federal Security Door Bolt - Product Review
The company Federal has been selling on our shores for quite some years now, more common in the states than here in the UK, but fair do’s to Federal their product range is showing great design and quality. Today we thought we would have a look at their Security Door Bolt.
They have marketed this product as a Patio Door Security Bolt and to be honest they are doing themselves an injustice, This locking bolt can fit on any door not just patio doors, perhaps its them looking at the UK market in a different way.
They come in a range of three colours, White, Brown and Silver.
The measurements of the lock is 29mm wide, 82mm High, The length if the bolt is 50mm and diameter is 9.5mm.
The length of travel on the bolt is a staggering 2 inches, so ideal for locking doors where the gap between the door and frame is a little more than normal.
The bolt comes with fixings for wood and metal doors. There is a choice of three keeps. Two projection type and two flush. The idea of having two flush ones is to allow ventilation on a patio door, by sliding it open a little and locking it at that point.
Fitting is straight forward, take the bolt out exposes the fixing holes, mark up, where you want to mark the holes, drill some pilot holes and fix the bolt.
Offer up the keep for your application and again measure for pilot holes and drill and fix. and, that is about it.
They are available Keyed to differ, but what we find most customers put two of these on a door, and it is better the have them keyed alike as it is far more convenient to operate.
They are priced keenly, compared to the UK counter parts, sometimes, going for a brand that may not be so popular as the main generics, you may find that they have something to shout about in quality, design innovation and ease of use is more about the product than the brand.
If you need some extra security for your front, back and patio doors. These federal locking bolts is a serious contender.
