Securing your home could not be easier or more secure than using anti bump cylinders. What are they you ask? It’s simply a cylinder tube that fits a key, which is inserted into your door lock. These will usually include use of a chisel, hammer or a screw driver. So how important is it to have an anti bump cylinder in your door? Let’s look at some facts.

So how does ‘bumping’ a lock actually work?
Well first of all a specially cut key is used and inserted into the cylinder itself. It is then trapped and ‘bumped’ by a tool (hammer, screwdriver etc). This now forces the pins in the cylinder to jump to their shear line. Now adding a little pressure, the cylinder will unlock, and the door will effectively open. It is that easy. I have never tried myself though, just to be clear! This can all be resolved with 1 simple tool. An Anti bump cylinder lock.
An anti bump cylinder is part of a high security lock. The way they are designed is so that a ‘bump key’ can’t be turned when in the key hole. This means the cylinders essentially cannot be forced open. The ‘bump’ key can’t turn because of an extra form of security called a shear or detainer bar. This bar is inserted on the side of the inside part of the cylinder called the plug. The plug is the tube like part where the pins fit in. Each detainer bar has unique imprint’s on them, ensuring they can’t be copied. Each of these prints fit perfectly into the key when inserted. But not just any key. They key you receive will be unique to your cylinder lock! These cylinders are also fitted with an anti snap feature. This is done by placing an extra bar at the bottom of the plug part on the inside of the cylinder. This reinforces the weakest part of the lock, ensuring a ‘snapping’ procedure cannot be done.
