A simple, step by step guide on how to install a Simons Voss Euro Profile Cylinder.
Simons Voss were established in 1995 and have since become world leaders in access control solutions. LocksOnline have been supplying Simons Voss products now since 2011 and we love everything they do. In this article i'll tell you how to install a Simons Voss Euro Profile cylinder with a step by step guide. Simons Voss have created an access control solution that takes minutes to install if you know how. The great thing about these cylinders is that they are battery powered with battery management that last for up to 300,000 activations, this means there is no need for a professional installer to come and install a power supply. Secondly the built quality of the Simons Voss euro cylinder is so good that it looks like it has been cut from a single piece of steel, with no holes or screw marks, it is one solid product. This makes it a little trick to find out how to fit, change, remove or replace batteries on the cylinders, but it is very straight forward, see the guide below.
The Simons Voss Tool
To work with the Simons Voss cylinders, you need to have the purpose built Simons Voss tool. The tool comes with any cylinder purchased but comes as a 'lite' versionof the tool in the picture below. The reason being, is that you should only need the professional tool if you work with Simons Voss cylinders on a daily basis. The tool allows you to unclip the caps off either end of the cylinder to expose the batteries and change them or remove one cap completely to install the lock.
Removing the Cap
To remove one end of the cylinder you need to identify the right end of the cylinder to open. There is one end of the cylinder that has a black rim and there is one end that doesn't, the one that you need to take off is the one without the black rim (see the image below). Now once you have identified the right end to take off, you need to insert the prongs of the tool into the holes on the Simons Voss euro cylinder. Once the prongs are inside, you need to twist the tool by a quarter of a turn until you hear a click. Once you hear the click all you need to do is pull the end of the cylinder with a little twist and the cap should be able to be removed.
