So now you know the basics when it comes time to replace your old, tired cylinder locks you have a good standing to get you started, you should hopefully know what size and length cylinder you require. With that information you could comfortably order a lock to replace you existing one however today I want to delve a little deep into what options you have open to you.
If I may I am going to talk to you about the security features offered by the high end models and what advantages they can have over budget models, now before I hear the groans of 'That sounds expensive' well fear not! The gap in price between the high and low end mechanical cylinders is not as vast as you may think, in-fact its not vast at all in my humble opinion! For the basic 5 pin bog-standard cylinder you are looking at between 5 and 10 pounds, this will get you something that does the job no problem at all however if you move your budget up just up touch to say £30 you can get an all singing, all dancing, high security, EPS (extended profile system) 6 pin cylinder made specifically for you.
Lets talk about some of the advantages this system has over the budget versions on the market. Now starting with the keys, the first main difference you will see when you receive your new EPS cylinder is that the key will look a little different to what you are used to. What makes our cylinders truly high security is the fact that we have an extra little mechanism inside the cylinder which engages with the side of the key, not just the teeth!

Another major benefit of having this system in place is that you can sleep safe behind your cylinder knowing that event the most accomplished thief would be able to pick, bump or snap that lock open. It really is the pinnacle of the of the mechanical lock, in the thousands of years since the invention of the lock it has culminated in these finely engineered cylinders in our EPS range. If youre in market for a new cylinder then Im sure by now you will know what I am going to recommend!
