People ask and I guess people surmise about what is and what is not good security, I have for years been invited around peoples homes and asked to survey their homes in regards to risk and security in general.
One of the interesting points is the demeanor of the customer, OK they are concerned about security, otherwise I would not be there in the first place. But what I find works well is to sit down, have a chat, cup of tea perhaps, maybe go as far as a biscuit. The most important thing to do is to listen to how they feel. Listen to what they thing their worries are.
I have a feel as the security needs for the area, and I know what the British Standards require and these are the pointers that I go with.
A clients attitude to security is what is paramount, we find some customers concerns over security to be quite vivid, yet others are more laid back, There is also a sense of responsibility that I find I must have as these clients feel vulnerable about their personal or material welfare.
Security is about weighing up the odds, and seeing what comes down, the most important thing is to ensure an element of scale. Some people just need a little friendly advice, like to stop keeping keys in the back door or in the windows. the basic security of keeping lights on, perhaps I may advise them of a local Neighborhood watch scheme and sadly sometimes I have left and not sold any thing. but what I have come away with is a sense that I have helped someone and that is also good fro my karma as well. Hopefully the advice given may help them with there fear of feeling un secure and at the same time they may canvas me to their friends should they also need security.
If the client is happy then I am happy, perhaps my bank manager may say something else, in my mind feeling secure is just as important as being secure. Perhaps its mind over matter.
