Union Code Handle
September last year we did a you tube video review of the Union/Yale Code Handle and ever since we have seen these flying of the shelves.
Quite simply the idea is easy, and straight forward, I think the Assa Abloy group have come up trumps with this product, we liked it so much we fitted one to our office door since doing the review last year.
Every day the handle is in constant use, and 'touch wood' we have not had any problems what so ever. Even though the buttons to press are quite small the projection of the didgit is very pronounced, giving you the confidence in pushing the button with your thumb as the rest of your hand is ready once the code has been entered to simply press down the handle and open the door.
It is truly a one piece operation for opening a door and obviously locking the door behind you.
Off course, the principle is easy, if you have a sash lock or a latch fitted to a door, this handle simply replaces the one you have at present. It works well with bolt through lock cases as this gives extra security to the fitting of the handle on the door.
The handle is designed for free exit, by simply pushing the handle down.
A few issues in my view, is the handle is not waterproof, this is a real dam shame as the use of the handle could be used on external doors as a passive form of security, perhaps sheltered doors or inner doors that don't get direct rain maybe OK. but for office doors and the like, where you want a bit of security, the door already has a handle, simply replacing these with the code handle give you passive security instantaneously.
Fitting them is not that dissimilar to fitting a normal pair of handles, do anyone with simple DIY skills can get these handles up and running in very little time indeed.
One thing that we found clever is how the batteries are stored in the handles, handy so to speak.
Being able to set up 4 of 6 digits codes is a blessing if your looking for that extra bit of security.
Don't think these are just a gimmick guys, this is a proper working locking handle and as we have mentioned has been locking our office door for over 8 months, hassle free and very easy to use.
So if your looking for an access control solution, there is a lock and handles already on the door, swapping them, you now have access control, even if the door does not have a lock on the door, like a new install, check out these lock cases that would work with the handle and at the same time dead lock the door.
Need more information check out our video, where we chatting about the handle, also how easy it is to program it for multiuser codes etc.
Finally, I guess it is up to if you if you like the finish as it is only available in silver, and silver and thats about it :-)
Thanks for having a read, go and buy a pair, these are Pukka Real.
