Sliding Sash Windows
If your looking on wanting to create extra security for your sliding sash windows then always consider two locking devices if your window exceeds 600 mm High or wide, depending on the type of lock used, look at the window in general and see how best to obtain a good level of security.
Some Sliding Sash Window locks are designed to allow the window to be opened for ventilation, try not to make the opening more than 100 mm and try never to leave the window open for ventilation when your not at home.
Casement Windows
The golden measurement to how many windows locks are enough for a casement window is to see how big the casement window is first. If your window exceeds 600 mm in either direction then two window locks should be used. try and split the leading edge of the casement window you are trying to secure into quarters or thirds then place one lock from the bottom up 1/4 or 1/3 and from the top down 1/4 or 1/3. The purpose is to try and distribute the load of an attack around the whole frame and not in a single point.
Louvre Windows.
In reality there is not much that you can do with louvre windows to make them more secure. the designs of Louvre windows vary but in reality there is not much on the market unless specially manufactured locks are available from the manufacture of the Louvre Windows. One thing that you can consider is gluing the louvres into their recesses. But grills, bars or shutters are the only true way of securing louvre windows.
